Chilling and Freezing

Milmeq custom designs systems for any type of food processing operation requiring chilling, freezing or thawing of product.

In the 1980’s Milmeq pioneered the introduction of large scale plate freezing technology to the meat industry, along with air-blast chilling and freezing tunnels. Today our plate freezers and single and multiple retention tunnels (SRT and MRT) are recognised as setting the global standard for optimising operating efficiencies and product quality.

With the key goals of increasing shelf life, prevention of weight loss, maintenance of product quality and ensuring consistency of product for the consumer, we have developed a range of chilling and freezing technologies. Our systems are configured to provide a hands-free environment in order to improve operator safety, reduce handling and retention time, increase product throughputs and enhance inventory management.

Our chilling and freezing expertise also includes carcass spray-chilling systems for beef, sheep and deer and complete refrigeration engine room design and air conditioning of process environments.

As well as the design of systems to support our chilling and freezing tunnels and plate freezers, we also design refrigeration systems for cold store facilities, specific operations within food process chains and large scale chillers for carcass chilling or blast freezing.

We focus on providing leading edge system designs that are safe, efficient and productive. With the environment in mind, our designs are focused on using natural refrigerants such as ammonia (NH3) and carbon dioxide (CO2).

Refrigeration

Engine Rooms

Milmeq designs refrigeration engine rooms for the food processing, cold storage and distribution industries.

Each engine room is developed in close consultation with the client to meet their specific needs, ensuring an energy efficient and technically sound solution.

We design CO2 systems to compliment other Milmeq equipment such as tunnels, as well as stand-alone systems for distribution centres. CO2 systems operate at higher pressures but require less power to operate than a conventional system. Pipes are stainless steel and of smaller diameter.

Ammonia (NH3) is predominantly used for plate freezers and larger systems as it enables a low refrigerant charge. High activity chilled distribution stores and process rooms usually employ secondary refrigerants such as propylene glycol to minimise the quantity of NH3 within the chilled areas.

Refrigeration

Compressor Packages

We manufacture compressor packages which allow full oil pump, high efficiency oil separation and horizontal oil separation. Compressor packages are provided in high side, low side or across line configurations.

Both screw and reciprocating compressor packages are available. Designs can also be two pole or variable speed depending on the required application.

Refrigeration

Dehumidification

We recommend and supply low dew point dehumidification systems to minimise frost build-up within blast and plate freezer enclosures. Less frost leads to improved operation of optical and proximity sensors and reduces defrost frequency times resulting in operational savings.

Other benefits include reduced carton damage from ice build-up and improved barcode readability. Our dehumidifiers incorporate technology from the world's leading desiccant wheel manufacturers.

Fully imported units are supplied in a standard design configuration, or a locally assembled version can be optimised to suit the individual application.
