The Teys family has been involved in the Australian beef industry since 1946. They have grown to become the second largest meat processor and exporter in Australia after partnering with international food, agriculture, financial and industrial company Cargill.
At their Beenleigh site, increased product throughput meant Teys’ existing plate freezers had become too small to meet production requirements.
Initially, the plan was to replace the plates within the existing infrastructure, however that would have meant a lengthy close down period for the plant.
Milmeq designed, manufactured and installed four half stack closing elevating cradle MILMEQ® Plate Freezers with the capacity to freeze approximately 7,200 cartons in a 24 hour cycle, to meet the demands of increased throughput. A new structure was built to house these.
We worked closely with the client to manage specific requirements, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
Through studying the clients current and future requirements it was decided the facility would include the ability to expand to house an additional two plate freezers. This allowed the infrastructure to be appropriately designed around future needs.
We installed plate freezers with half stack closing functionality, giving Teys the ability to open half the plate freezer stack for loading while the other half remains closed to continue the freezing process.
This half stack closing solution aligns with Teys operations to ensure that adequate closed stack freezing time is available with only 4 plate freezers.
Without this functionality, more individual stacks would be required, increasing the building footprint and total life cycle refrigeration costs.
The half stack closing plate freezers installed are the first of their type in Australia.
The freezers were commissioned in May 2016 and have been running well, with the half stack closing function allowing maximum freezing time with minimal disruptions during product loading.
